Doctor reveals common mistake in morning skincare that many women make Washing your face in the morning with just water is fine (Illustrative photo: freepik.com)

Many women wash their faces with special products in the morning, but this is not necessary for all skin types. It is perfectly fine to simply wash your face with water, without using foams or gels, states Ukrainian doctor and evidence-based blogger Yana Tokar.

When can you wash your face with just water in the morning

Dry or sensitive skin

If your skin doesn't get dirty overnight and doesn't require deep cleansing, washing with water can help prevent dryness.

Lack of oiliness

If your skin doesn't produce much sebum overnight and looks fresh, cleansing products may be unnecessary.

Proper nighttime care

If you thoroughly clean your face in the evening, leaving no traces of makeup or SPF, then in the morning, just water can be enough. The same goes if you don't use heavy creams or overnight masks.

When is a cleansing product essential?

  • If your skin tends to be oily, as the sebaceous glands are active overnight.
  • If you used nighttime care with rich textures (oils, thick creams).
  • If your skin shows signs of dirt (dust, makeup residue, or cream).
  • If you're prone to acne, it's important to wash away excess sebum to prevent clogged pores.

What water is best to choose?

  • Use cool or slightly warm water. Hot water can damage the skin barrier, while cold water cleans ineffectively.
  • If the tap water is hard, try using purified or mineral water to avoid irritation.

"Remember, skincare is always a personalized process. If your skin looks good, doesn’t need additional cleansing, and doesn’t feel discomfort after simply washing with water, this might be enough. But if you have any doubts, it’s better to consult a dermatologist!" – the expert wrote.
