The European Union has capitulated by agreeing to a trade deal with the United States - it's a dark day for the "alliance of free peoples," French Prime Minister François Bayrou reports on X.

"It is a dark day when an alliance of free peoples, united to affirm their values and defend their interests, resolves to submission," stated the French Prime Minister.

However, France's Minister for European Affairs, Benjamin Haddad, called the deal one that provides temporary stability but described it as "unbalanced."

"The trade agreement negotiated by the European Commission with the United States will bring temporary stability to economic actors threatened by the escalation of American tariffs, but it is unbalanced," the Minister emphasized.

According to Haddad, the deal excludes any concessions for sensitive agricultural sectors and preserves European regulations in areas such as digital technologies and healthcare.

New deal between US and EU

On July 27, US President Donald Trump announced a new large-scale trade deal with the European Union. According to Trump, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy products.

Later, Ursula von der Leyen revealed details of the trade deal the European Union had signed with the United States. Among other things, zero tariffs would be introduced on a range of products. She also noted that the deal would ensure the competitiveness of European businesses, while the US would gain access to a market of 450 million consumers.

Also today, July 28, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that US President Donald Trump supposedly "ate for breakfast" European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, forcing her to sign the trade deal between the United States and the European Union.
