Many people consider dark chocolate a healthy alternative to milk chocolate due to its higher cocoa content. However, well-known nutritionist Pablo Ojeda claims that behind the label, there may be more sugar than it seems. What you may not know about dark chocolate, the expert explains on X.

"It (chocolate) seems healthy, but it's disguised sugar. You read 'dark chocolate' and think: more cocoa, less sugar, therefore healthier. But are you sure?" the expert asks.

According to him, it is enough to read the ingredients list to uncover the deception.

"If the first ingredient on the list is sugar, then it's not dark chocolate, but just sugar colored brown," the expert said.

What else to watch out for when buying chocolate

The nutritionist also warns about other additives that spoil the essence of the product.

"It contains many cheap vegetable fats, dairy products that shouldn't be there, flavorings and additives that have little to do with pure cocoa," he added.

Even the most expensive chocolate, presented as a luxury item, can fall into this category.

"Even those candies from Dubai in golden wrappers belong here. Luxury on the outside, but harmful recipe on the inside," he notes.

How to choose truly healthy chocolate

Ojeda's recommendation is simple: chocolate must contain at least 85% cocoa to be considered truly healthy.

In addition, its composition should not include:

  • dairy products
  • added vegetable fats
  • artificial flavorings and other strange additives

Otherwise, according to the nutritionist, the consumer becomes a victim of so-called dark marketing, a commercial strategy that uses the dark color of the product and its refined image to create a false impression of health benefits.
