Danish PM calls for lifting restrictions on weapons transferred to Ukraine
Denmark believes that Europe, the United States, and other partners should stop talking about restrictions on weapons being transferred to Ukraine, states Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen.
Frederiksen believes that talking about red lines is a big mistake when a country is at war. This, in turn, gives the aggressor country Russia “two good cards on their hands”.
“And secondly, talking about red lines when it comes to donations is, of course, a big mistake, because you have to put it the other way around,” Frederiksen emphasized.
The Danish Prime Minister noted that Europe, along with the United States and other partners, had been saying for almost 2.5 years that they could not allow Ukraine to lose this war. However, Frederiksen called for a change in attitude and instead talk about ensuring that the country could win this war. She emphasized that what Ukraine needs to win this war should be provided.
“And then finally, I think we need to stop talking about restrictions on the weapons used by Ukraine. Of course, everything has to be in order with international law, but as long as it is according to international law, I would suggest, and my advice to all of us is not to talk about restrictions and, again, to put it the other way around,” the Danish Prime Minister emphasized.
Frederiksen added that Ukrainians should be able to defend themselves, and self-defense includes the use of weapons.
During the conference, the Danish Prime Minister also noted that there is no alternative to Ukraine's victory in the war with Russia. Otherwise, a Russian victory would be a defeat not only for Ukraine but also for the West.
