A suspect was taken into custody after a shooting at a Dallas high school left four students injured. The incident triggered a major police response, according to The Guardian.

The incident occurred just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, where three students suffered gunshot wounds and a fourth sustained a musculoskeletal injury.

All four were transported to local hospitals with conditions ranging from serious to non-life-threatening, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect was apprehended within hours, though no additional details about the individual or a potential motive were released.

Aerial footage from the scene showed a heavy law enforcement presence surrounding the 1,000-student campus, where students had been safely evacuated earlier in the day.

"This is just becoming way too familiar. And it should not be familiar," said Stephanie Elizalde, superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District, during a press conference.

Parents in fear, school cancels classes for the week

Police said the weapon involved was not brought in during the school’s "regular intake time," suggesting that existing protocols had not failed.

Assistant police chief Christina Smith added that the investigation remains ongoing and that authorities are still piecing together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Shauna Williams, a parent of two students at the school, expressed her growing fear: "I can’t keep going through this as a parent. I’m telling you, it’s very frightening to think about losing your child."

In response, the school has canceled classes for the rest of the week and will provide counseling support to students.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the incident a "senseless act of violence" and offered condolences to the victims and their families.

This latest school shooting in the US follows a similarly tragic event in Europe just weeks earlier, when approximately ten people, including the suspected attacker, were killed during a mass shooting at a school in Örebro, Sweden.
