Czechia to receive 15 Leopard tanks from Germany as gift for military aid to Ukraine
Czechia will receive an additional 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks and one Büffel 3 recovery vehicle on a Leopard 2A4 chassis as a gift from Germany, according to the Czech Ministry of Defense.
The Czech Ministry of Defense has already signed the document for the transfer of tanks from Germany, which is the second compensation for Czech deliveries of military equipment to Ukraine.
Additionally, Czechia and Germany have begun consultations regarding the purchase of additional Leopard 2A4 tanks. Specifically, in early February this year, Prime Minister Petr Fiala mentioned the possibility of buying 15 more Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany. This would mean that Czechia will have 42 Leopard 2A4 tanks and three recovery vehicles.
"Modernizing our tank army continues. We are replacing Soviet-era equipment with new, modern vehicles capable of withstanding the modern battlefield. This is an important step forward for our tankers. I also want to thank the German party for recognizing our assistance to Ukraine, which is facing brutal Russian aggression," said Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová.
In December 2023, Czechia received the entire batch of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany. Berlin supplied Prague with combat vehicles to replace Soviet T-72s, which were sent to Kyiv.
Previously, it was reported that Czechia had agreed with Germany to supply Leopard 2 tanks to replace the T-72 tanks given to Ukraine.
