Czechia receives promised Leopard 2 tanks from Germany, replacing T-72 sent to Ukraine
Czechia has received the entire batch of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany. Berlin supplied combat vehicles to Prague instead of the Soviet T-72s, which were sent to Kyiv, according to the Armed Forces of Czechia.
"All 14 gifted Leopard 2A4 tanks are already in the barracks of Praslavice," the message states.
The Czech military specifies that this move limits their dependence on Russian technologies, transitioning to a modern platform.
"The new tanks are more robust and provide significantly greater crew safety," added the Czech Armed Forces.
What led to this?
Earlier, it was reported that Czechia agreed with Germany to receive Leopard 2 tanks instead of the T-72 tanks that were given to Ukraine.
In December, Czechia received the first of 14 Leopard 2 tanks from Germany, which were meant to replace the Soviet-era T-72 tanks previously transferred to Ukraine to combat Russian aggression.
In late April two more Leopard 2A4 tanks arrived in Czechia, which Germany promised the country as compensation for the provided Soviet T-72 tanks to Ukraine.
