Czechia has expanded its diplomatic presence in Ukraine, opening a new embassy office in Dnipro, states Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský on social platform X.

Lipavský officially opened the Czech diplomatic mission on Wednesday, August 13. The office will operate under the authority of the Czech Embassy in Kyiv.

“Czechia is not afraid of Putin. Today I officially opened our diplomatic office in Dnipro, managed by our Embassy in Kyiv. We are the first country with a diplomatic presence in eastern Ukraine,” the minister declared.

The day before, Jan Lipavský arrived in Dnipro for talks with local officials. Discussions focused on humanitarian projects that Czechia is ready to support as part of the region’s post-war recovery.

Czech support for Ukraine

Czechia has been one of Ukraine’s staunchest allies since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, not only taking in large numbers of Ukrainian refugees but also providing financial aid to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and other wartime needs.

While benefits for Ukrainian refugees in Czechia have recently been reduced, the country still ranks among the top destinations for those seeking safety abroad.

Notably, during his visit to Dnipro, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský had to take shelter three times due to air raid alerts, spending around 15 minutes each time in a safe location.

Lipavský has repeatedly stressed that Czechia supports a just peace based on Ukraine’s terms and that Russia has no right to dictate the outcome. He also reminded that Putin failed to capture Ukraine, neither in three days nor in three years.
