Czech PM tells when security guarantees agreement with Ukraine will be signed
Ukraine and Czechia will sign a security guarantees agreement at the European Political Community summit in London, scheduled for July 18, according to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
"Yesterday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and I agreed to finalize the negotiations on the text of the Czech-Ukrainian security agreement before the NATO summit in Washington. We will then sign it at the European Political Community summit in London on July 18," he said.
Security guarantees
In 2023, the G7 countries reached a consensus on providing security guarantees to Ukraine. The implementation of this decision involves the conclusion of separate bilateral security agreements between Ukraine and each of its partner countries. The term of such agreements is 10 years.
The provisions contained in these agreements are largely similar. They include support for Ukraine during military operations, as well as commitments to provide military, humanitarian, and financial assistance. In addition, the guarantor countries express their support for Ukraine's course towards integration into the European Union and NATO.
On June 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed security guarantee agreements with the EU, Lithuania, and Estonia.
