Czech company supplies Ukraine with equipment for nuclear power plants
The Czech company Škoda JS of the ČEZ group has secretly transferred new equipment for nuclear power plants to Ukraine. It is equipment for the reactors of the Rivne NPP, according to Novinky.
The company delivered eight drives for two VVER 440 reactors before Christmas.
Karel Samec, a spokesperson for the engineering company in Plzen, said that the delivery of the equipment was announced only now because Russia attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
The company explained that the equipment ensures stable operation of the reactor and allows it to be regulated, which will help ensure a stable supply of electricity.
Recently, the company ÚJV Řež, which is also part of the ČEZ group, manufactured and delivered a special cable to reinforce the reactor containment building. It weighs 13 tons and measures 173 meters.
According to the contract, Škoda JS has shipped 76 drives to the Rivne NPP. Most of them have already been installed and are in operation. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
ŠKODA JS is currently the only manufacturer in the world that supplies this type of drive to Ukrainian NPPs. Russia produces the same drives.
The company expects to expand cooperation, in particular with the South Ukrainian NPP.
Nuclear power plants are one of the main sources of energy supply in Ukraine, especially against the backdrop of Russia's massive attacks on the energy sector.
Currently, Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, is under Russian occupation. The Russians neglect the safety of the plant, and it is often on the verge of blackout.
Against the backdrop of massive shelling of the power system in Ukraine, there is talk of building small modular reactors. Find out what this technology is in the RBC-Ukraine article.
