Croatia's pro-Russian president re-elected for another term
According to exit polls, Croatian President Zoran Milanović has already garnered more than 50% of the vote. As a result, he can win in the first round, reports N1.
Today, the first round of the presidential election was held in Croatia. According to exit polls, the current president and SDP candidate Zoran Milanović wins the first round with 51.48 percent of the vote.
Meanwhile, it is known that the CDU candidate Dragan Primorac gained 19.29 percent of the vote.
Milanović has been repeatedly called a pro-Russian politician, although he has denied it.
Previously, the Croatian president opposed Finland and Sweden's accession to NATO, as well as the training of Ukrainian troops in Croatia as part of EU efforts. Milanović also criticized Western countries for supplying Ukraine with tanks and other weapons, saying that these efforts would only prolong the war.
Although the position of president in Croatia is largely ceremonial, Milanović is formally the supreme commander of the armed forces. His anti-Western statements have drawn criticism from the government, which has supported Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
In October of this year, Milanović did not allow the Croatian army to participate in NATO's security and training activities in Ukraine.
