Cory Booker criticized Trump’s policies in a marathon Senate speech

Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey delivered an all-night speech in the Senate, accusing the Trump administration of creating a crisis in the United States, reports The New York Times.
New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat, took to the Senate floor on Monday evening and continued speaking until Tuesday morning. According to the politician, the country is facing a crisis due to the "recklessness" of the Trump administration.
Booker began his speech at 7 p.m. on Monday and was still speaking as of 8 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday. The senator deliberately disrupted the normal business of the Senate to draw attention to issues caused by what he sees as Trump’s harmful policies. In particular, he condemned the administration’s plans to cut funding for Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, although the White House denies such intentions.
"I rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able," Booker said at the beginning of his speech. "I rise tonight because I believe sincerely that our nation is in crisis."
Criticism of policies and support from colleagues
The senator’s speech covered various topics, including healthcare, education, immigration policy, and national security. He argued that the Trump administration and his advisor Elon Musk display a "complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people."
Throughout his speech, Booker quoted renowned politicians like John Lewis and John McCain and shared the story of Jasmine Mooney, a Canadian citizen detained by US immigration officers. Despite the length of his speech, it did not break any Senate records - the longest debate on record lasted more than 125 hours back in 1960.
By Tuesday morning, neither Donald Trump on Truth Social nor Elon Musk on his social media platforms had commented on Booker’s speech.
The senator’s speech highlighted growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s policies, which recent polls also reflect. According to Reuters/Ipsos, less than 40% of Americans approve of Trump’s actions on the economy, foreign policy, and corruption.
Additionally, 57% believe his economic decisions are too erratic, especially regarding tariffs that have sparked inflation concerns.
Elon Musk has also come under fire: protests against his role in Trump’s reforms are spreading across the United States and Europe. Demonstrators are picketing Tesla showrooms, urging people to sell their cars and shares in the company. The "Tesla Takedown" movement aims to draw attention to the downsizing of government institutions backed by Musk.
The situation has escalated amid reports of violent attacks on Tesla dealerships and charging stations in the US and Europe. Incidents of arson, shootings, and vandalism have increased, with some cars labeled as "Nazi cars." Experts point out that Tesla has become a visible symbol of Musk's influence, provoking social tensions.
