The US Congress is ready to support a bill that would allow the introduction of tough sanctions against Russia, according to Senator Lindsey Graham.

Graham said he fully supports the position of US President Donald Trump in response to Russia’s drone violation of Polish airspace.

"Mr. President, Congress is with you. We stand ready to pass legislation authorizing bone-crushing new sanctions and tariffs that can be deployed at your discretion. Our goal is to empower you as you deal with this mounting threat," Senator stated.

He also backed Trump’s calls for Europe to impose tariffs on India and China, which are buying cheap Russian oil and thereby fueling the war machine of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Graham, Republicans and Democrats in Congress are working with President Trump on new ideas, including tariffs, to put an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Graham’s bill

Senator Lindsey Graham, along with Democrat Richard Blumenthal and 80 other lawmakers, introduced a bill that would expand economic sanctions against Russia for refusing a ceasefire.

Among the measures is a 500% tariff on goods from countries that purchase Russian oil.

The document is supported in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, but it has not yet been brought to a vote.

Trump has personally threatened to impose secondary tariffs and sanctions on Russia if it refuses a ceasefire with Ukraine, but the US President has so far been in no rush with concrete decisions.
