The United States will not impose tariffs and sanctions on Colombia. An agreement on the return of deported migrants has been reached, reports Bloomberg.

The South American country has agreed to all of President Trump's conditions, including the unrestricted admission of all illegal migrants from Colombia returning from the United States on US military aircraft, without restrictions or delays, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The order on tariffs and sanctions will remain unsigned “unless Colombia violates this agreement.”

Meanwhile, Colombian President Gustavo Petro retweeted the White House statement shortly after it was published.

Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo confirmed that the two countries had overcome the diplomatic impasse, saying that the country would continue to accept deported citizens from the United States. He also added that he plans to travel to Washington in the coming days with the Colombian ambassador to the United States to follow up on the implementation of the agreements between the two countries.

“We will continue receiving the Colombians who return as deportees, guaranteeing them conditions of dignity,” Murillo said.

Dispute over migrants

Earlier, Colombia refused to accept planes with migrants from the United States. In response, Trump ordered sanctions against the country and a 25% duty on its goods. The US Embassy in Colombia stopped processing visas.

In turn, Colombian President Gustavo Petro ordered the Ministry of Commerce to increase tariffs on imports of goods from the United States by 25%.
