How to choose a pillow - Key factors to consider
Of course, you can purchase a standard pillow. However, not all standard options will suit you specifically. There are several main points to consider.
Size
The pillow should match the width of your shoulders. If your shoulders are narrow, choose a smaller-sized pillow. If they are wide, opt for a larger one.
Additionally, the height of the pillow should be equivalent to or a few centimeters lower than the distance from your neck to your shoulder joint.
Shape
Pillows can be square, rectangular, oval, with a neck recess, and more. Choose the shape carefully, considering how you sleep. For back sleepers, a small rectangular pillow with a recess or a roll where the neck lies will suffice.
If you sleep on your side, a rectangular pillow is also suitable. And if you prefer to sleep on your stomach, choose a star-shaped, oval, or low rectangular pillow.

Filler
There are many options available. A pillow with down and feathers is the most expensive but may not be suitable for allergy sufferers, and it requires special care. A pillow filled with sheep wool is suitable for those with muscle or back pain, but it quickly loses its shape.
Bamboo fiber is antibacterial and hypoallergenic, but it poorly absorbs moisture and quickly becomes compacted. Pillows made from plant materials such as buckwheat hulls or hop cones are noisy, but they can improve sleep quality.
If you want to choose a pillow with a synthetic filler, consider microgel or viscoelastic material - these materials retain their shape for a long time, provide good neck and head support, but they are quite expensive. More budget-friendly options include silicone, polyester fiber, and microfiber - they can hold their shape well, but sometimes they poorly absorb moisture.

Pillow firmness
Pillows can be firm or soft. If you sleep on your back, you need medium firmness or softness, if you sleep on your side, very firm. And if you constantly toss and turn during sleep, choose a soft pillow that will easily adapt to you.
These tips will help you choose the most comfortable pillow that will give you a good night's sleep and allow you to wake up without back, neck, and head pain. Consider your personal needs and, if necessary, consult with a doctor and choose an orthopedic option.
