China has suspended the implementation of restrictive measures against the US shipbuilding industry for one year, according to Reuters.

The measure concerns the postponement of introducing a special port fee on American vessels. In addition, Beijing has suspended an investigation into the impact of such measures on the safety and development of the shipping sector, the shipbuilding industry, and related supply chains.

The decision was made in consideration of the agreements reached during trade talks between China and the United States in Kuala Lumpur.

In October, China’s Ministry of Commerce reported that following negotiations between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump, both sides agreed to mutually suspend measures against the shipbuilding industry for one year.

“Thaw” in trade relations between China and the US

China has suspended its ban on exports to the United States of gallium, germanium, antimony, superhard materials, and other rare earth metals that had been prohibited from export since December 2024.

On November 6, China also suspended for one year the restrictions introduced in March on the supply of dual-use goods to 31 US companies, mostly from the defense and aerospace sectors. This followed a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea.

As a result of that meeting, Trump announced a decision to reduce tariffs on Chinese goods by 10%, bringing the total US tariff rate to 47%, which is seen as a step toward partially easing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.
