Chinese bombers began training near the coast of Taiwan a few days before the expected meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, CNN reports.

China sent a group of H-6K strategic bombers to the coast of Taiwan for counter-training. These maneuvers will take place just a few days before the expected meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Several J-10 fighter jets flew alongside the bombers into undefined airspace. H-6K bombers are capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

The military channel of Chinese state television reported that units of the Eastern Command Air Force, which is responsible for operations around Taiwan, conducted combat training focused on reconnaissance, early warning, and precision strikes in key areas.

The report shows footage of J-10 fighters taking off and H-6 bombers launching missiles.

China-Taiwan relations

China regularly sends its fighter jets, drones, and military ships into the airspace and waters around Taiwan for reconnaissance and intimidation purposes.

Earlier, US media reported that Trump had refused to approve more than $400 million in military aid to Taiwan, which was planned to be provided this summer. The decision is linked to an agreement with China - Trump planned to negotiate a trade deal and a possible summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Meanwhile, Russia is helping China prepare for an attack on Taiwan. This involves the sale of military equipment and large-scale training for Chinese airborne troops.

For many years, China has considered Taiwan part of its territory and calls its government separatist. In 1949, the remnants of the anti-communist Kuomintang, who lost the civil war to Mao Zedong, took refuge in Taiwan.
