China refuses to participate in peace summit
China will not participate in the peace conference on Ukraine, which will be held in Switzerland next month, according to Reuters.
Three sources informed that Beijing rejected the invitation because the conditions for participation were not met.
This week, China informed diplomats that among the unmet conditions were the recognition of the conference by both Russia and Ukraine, equal participation of all parties, and fair discussion of all proposals.
Peace summit
On June 15 and 16, Switzerland will become the center of global diplomacy as it hosts a summit dedicated to finding ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
More than 150 countries have received invitations from Ukraine and Switzerland. Russia is not on this list.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has invited US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping to the summit. So far, neither has confirmed their participation.
Earlier, media reported that Wang Yi, a senior Chinese diplomat, is likely to skip the peace summit due to potential participation in the BRICS summit, which will be hosted by the Kremlin at the same time.
