China said that US actions regarding Venezuela violate international law and called for the immediate release of the country's president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, according to the press service of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"China expresses serious concern over the forced detention and deportation by the United States of President Maduro and his wife. The actions of the United States clearly violate international law and the basic norms governing international relations, as well as the purposes and principles of the UN Charter," the ministry said.

China's Foreign Ministry urged the United States to "resolve this issue through dialogue and negotiations."

"China calls on the United States to ensure the personal safety of President Maduro and his wife, immediately release President Maduro and his wife, stop efforts to undermine the Venezuelan regime, and resolve this issue through dialogue and negotiations," the ministry emphasized.

US military operation in Venezuela

As a reminder, on January 3, the United States conducted a military operation in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. The operation involved aviation, the US Navy, drones, and a CIA intelligence network.

The goal of the operation was to detain Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Along with him, US forces also detained his wife, Cilia Flores. They were taken to the United States and are currently in custody.

On the same day, the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York brought multiple charges against Maduro. He is accused of conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, organizing the supply of cocaine to the US, illegal possession of automatic weapons and explosive devices, and conspiracy to use them against the United States.

In addition, US President Donald Trump said that America would govern Venezuela. This would continue until a transfer of power takes place.

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Venezuela ruled that Vice President Delsi Rodríguez will serve as acting president during Maduro's absence.

At the same time, Bloomberg reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will play a key role in managing Venezuela until a safe and lawful transition of power takes place.
