A child died during a demonstration of “captured NATO equipment” in Russia after the rear hatch of an armored vehicle suddenly fell on his head, according to Russian media.

In Komsomolsk-on-Amur, a four-year-old boy died at an exhibition of “trophy” equipment from NATO and the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to Russian media, the rear hatch of an M113 armored personnel carrier crushed the child's head.

The incident occurred on the morning of April 26. According to eyewitnesses, children were inspecting the military equipment when the hatch suddenly opened.

The official cause of the incident has not been disclosed: according to some reports, the hatch was opened by one of the visitors, while others suggest it happened due to a technical malfunction.

The exhibition on Theater Square was opened on April 25 by local authorities, who described it as part of the "patriotic education of the younger generation."

Following the incident, police and emergency services cordoned off the exhibition area.

As a reminder, we previously reported that Russia suffered record equipment losses on the front line in October 2024 — the highest in the past two years of war. This was linked to the rapid pace of the Ukrainian offensive.

Data from the Oryx project, analyzed by the publication, show that in October Russia lost more armored vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, and other equipment than in any other month since October 2022, when Russian forces retreated from the Kharkiv region.
