Russian forces launched a nighttime attack on Chernivtsi and the surrounding region on July 12, using cruise missiles and Shahed-type kamikaze drones. The strike damaged homes and vehicles, and there are reports of casualties and injuries, according to a Telegram post from Ruslan Zaparaniuk, head of the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration.

"At dawn, the Russians attacked our region with four Shahed-type UAVs and one missile. Tragically, falling debris from the enemy targets killed two people in Chernivtsi — a 26-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man," the governor stated.

He added that four more people were seriously injured, and doctors are currently fighting for their lives. One woman is in critical condition. Ten others sustained minor injuries and received medical assistance at the scene.

Several residential buildings, stores, administrative buildings, and vehicles were also damaged in Chernivtsi.

"We also have consequences in the Storozhynets community. As a result of a strike by an enemy UAV, a residential building and a car were damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries. All relevant services are working at the scene," Zaparanyuk added.

Number of casualties rises

"Unfortunately, two of the seriously injured have just died in the hospital — a woman approximately 45 years old and a man around 65," the head of the administration said.

As of 8:30 a.m., there are four confirmed deaths in Chernivtsi.

Russian forces launched an overnight attack on Ukraine on July 12 using kamikaze drones and various types of missiles. The central, northern, and western regions of the country were hit the hardest.

Lviv was subjected to a massive drone strike. One of the drones destroyed the entrance of a residential building, causing gas and water leaks. In the Zaliznychnyi district, a non-residential building's roof caught fire. Several other buildings and a kindergarten were also damaged.

Explosions were also reported in Lutsk, where a fire completely destroyed a private home.
