Al Green ejected from Chamber after shouting at Trump, faces censure

Democratic Rep. Al Green made history on Tuesday night as one of the few lawmakers ever to be forcibly removed from the House chamber after loudly protesting against Donald Trump during his address to Congress, and now, he faces potential censure from his colleagues, AP News reports.
Tension was already running high when Green stood up, shaking his cane at Trump and interrupting the speech. “The president was saying he had a mandate, and I was making it clear that he has no mandate to cut Medicaid,” Green later told reporters. As he spoke, Republican lawmakers drowned him out with chants of “USA! USA!”
House Speaker Mike Johnson repeatedly called for order, banging the gavel. When Green refused to sit down, Johnson ordered the Sergeant at Arms to remove him. “He’s made history in a terrible way,” Johnson later stated, calling for Green to be censured. “If they want to make a 77-year-old heckling congressman the face of their resistance, so be it.”

Green stands his ground on health care and impeachment
Green has long been an outspoken critic of Trump, previously introducing articles of impeachment against him in 2017 and 2019. On Tuesday, he reiterated his opposition to Republican proposals to cut Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. “This is the richest country in the world,” he said. “And health care is about to become wealth care. We can’t let that happen.”
Despite the backlash, Green remains defiant, hinting at new impeachment efforts against Trump. “This president is unfit,” he declared. “He should not hold the office.”
Green’s protest came on a night when Trump addressed a range of critical issues, from domestic policies to international affairs. His speech touched on topics such as Greenland, the Panama Canal, and a letter from Zelenskyy: Trump’s key statements in Congress, signaling the administration’s priorities moving forward.
