Chances are there: Ukrainian Intelligence chief admits possibility of destroying Crimean Bridge by end of year
Ukrainian defenders may destroy the Crimean Bridge this year. Work is underway on this, according to a statement from Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
A journalist asked Budanov if the Crimean Bridge could be destroyed soon.
"Everyone is working on it. Both on long-range strikes and on this. It all requires a comprehensive solution. The work is ongoing," Budanov replied, asking the journalist what she meant by "soon."
She explained that she was referring to the next few months or the period until the end of the year.
"I would also like that. If we look at the near future, there are chances," said the head of the Defense Intelligence.
What preceded
Ukrainian defenders have struck the Crimean Bridge multiple times, causing significant damage.
As a result, the enemy's logistics were disrupted—they could not transport weapons to the peninsula via the bridge and began seeking alternative routes. Specifically, they started using ferries to transport weapons and equipment.
In early April, The Guardian, citing high-ranking officials from the Defense Intelligence, claimed that the destruction of the Crimean Bridge was inevitable. Journalists reported that Ukrainians had plans to disable the bridge in the first half of 2024.
At the same time, the Russians continue to strengthen the bridge’s defenses. They have concentrated air defense systems around it and set up barriers with barges on the water.
