Explosions were heard in Moscow this afternoon, April 23. The citizens noticed plumes of black smoke near the Moscow City complex, according to Russian Telegram channels.

The blast and subsequent fire occurred in the parking area of the Afimall City shopping center located in the Moscow City complex.

Eyewitnesses report thick black smoke. Russian emergency services have already arrived at the scene, assigning an elevated hazard level to the fire.

Russian Telegram channels publish a video of a burning car, though the make remains unidentifiable. Other videos depict thick smoke billowing from the parking area.

Later, Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations claimed that construction materials and pressurized containers caught fire in the Afimall City parking lot. The fire has reportedly been contained.

Drone attacks on Moscow

On the night of March 11, Moscow reported an attack by unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles that caused destruction and casualties.

Initially, the governor of the Moscow region, Andrey Vorobyov, reported one death and three injuries. That number later rose to 20 injured.
