Ceasefire possible in Gaza if Hamas provides list of hostages - CNN
If Hamas provides a suitable list of hostages for release, military actions in the Gaza Strip will be halted, according to CNN.
According to three sources familiar with talks, Israel and Hamas continue to negotiate through intermediaries about the possible release of hostages from Gaza, leading to another pause in hostilities.
"The negotiating parties — Israel and Hamas, in consultation with Qatar, the US, and Egypt — are still actively discussing the release of the rest of the women hostages," the media says.
There is an understanding that the list of prisoners that Hamas deems acceptable to Israel would bring about a ceasefire, say these sources.
Israel believes that among the hostages, as before, there are 20 women and two children under the age of 18 out of a total of 137 hostages.
"If and when what is presumed to be the last group of remaining civilian women were to be successfully released, the parameters of the negotiations would quickly turn to other categories of hostages: civilian men, as well as military reservists — both male and female, two sources said," the article notes.
Release of Hamas hostages
Last week, Israel signed an agreement with Hamas for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages. The first group was released on November 24. They were transported to Israeli hospitals.
The next day, Hamas released a group of 17 people, handing them over to the Red Cross. The third group of 17 was accepted by the Red Cross on November 26.
Besides, Hamas released three underage French hostages.
