Heart health largely depends on nutrition. Some foods can raise cholesterol levels, promote hypertension, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, reports Huffpost.

Liver

Cardiologist Eleonora Levin says she never eats liver. That's because it's a red meat with an extremely high fat content.

"In general, I avoid red meat because it is very high in saturated fat and trans fat, and it is especially harmful because it is also an organ that filters toxins, so any toxins are contained there," the doctor added.

100 grams of liver contains about 300-400 mg of cholesterol, which exceeds the daily allowance for people with cardiovascular disease. Excess cholesterol can contribute to the formation of plaques in the blood vessels, increasing the risk of atherosclerosis, heart attack, and stroke.

Sausages for breakfast

According to cardiologist Elizabeth Klodas, she avoids sausages for breakfast at all costs. Such a product is high in sodium, which contributes to high blood pressure, and it is also a large source of saturated fat, which raises cholesterol levels.

Processed meats, including sausages, ham, and bacon, are classified as carcinogens.

Sausages contain a large amount of sodium, which raises blood pressure and increases the burden on the heart and kidneys.

Margarine

A study found that with every tablespoon of margarine you eat, you are 6% more likely to die within 16 years.

"With that in mind, I tell my patients to use olive oil whenever possible," said Dr. Harmony Reynold.

Some types of margarine contain hydrogenated fats, which raise the level of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and lower the "good" cholesterol (HDL), which contributes to the development of atherosclerosis and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Steaks and bacon

Cardiologist Leonard Lilly said that saturated fat consumption is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Red meat and fatty bacon contain a significant amount of cholesterol, which can accumulate on the walls of blood vessels, narrowing them and impairing blood circulation.

Especially bacon contains excessive salt, which often contains preservatives and a large amount of sodium. This can cause an increase in blood pressure and put a strain on the heart.

Regular consumption of large amounts of red and processed meat can provoke chronic inflammatory processes in the body, which worsens the condition of blood vessels.

Fried chicken

Regular consumption of fried foods will increase the risk of heart disease and stroke due to the increase in the amount of saturated and trans fats in the body.

These unhealthy fats can increase cholesterol levels.

To reduce the risks, it is better to choose grilled, baked, or boiled chicken, and if you want a crispy crust, use less harmful cooking methods, such as baking in the oven with a minimum amount of oil.

Donuts

Donuts are fried in oil that contains trans fats, which makes them hard on the heart. They raise cholesterol and blood sugar levels, contributing to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Trans fats are often disguised on labels as partially hydrogenated oils.

A single donut can contain up to 20-30 g of sugar, which contributes to sudden spikes in blood glucose levels. This increases the risk of insulin resistance and obesity, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
