Casualties rise in Chernihiv after drone hits apartment building, children injured

As of the morning, the number of people injured in Chernihiv has risen to 10 following a hostile drone strike on a five-story residential building on December 25. Three of the injured are children, according to the head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Viacheslav Chaus.

“As of this morning, 10 people have been reported injured as a result of a ‘Geran’ drone hitting a residential building in Chernihiv. Three of them are children,” the statement said.
Chaus recalled that an 80-year-old woman was killed in the strike on the apartment building.
According to the head of the regional administration, two apartments were completely destroyed. In other apartments, as well as in neighboring buildings, windows were blown out by the blast wave.
He also said that all emergency and utility services worked at the site until late at night. Windows were temporarily covered with OSB boards, and water, electricity, and gas supplies were partially restored. Cleanup and recovery efforts are continuing today.

Attacks in the region
In addition, in a village of the Koriukivka community, an FPV drone struck energy infrastructure, leaving some residents without electricity.
Border areas of the Chernihiv region were under shelling over the past day. In total, 47 shelling incidents were recorded, with 93 explosions reported.
What is known about the strike on the building
Earlier, on December 25 in Chernihiv, during an air raid alert at around 12:56 p.m., an explosion was heard. A Russian attack drone struck a multi-story residential building.
Initially, one injured person and damage to one apartment were reported. However, the information was quickly updated: less than an hour later, authorities reported five injured people, four of whom were hospitalized.
At the impact site, rescuers freed four residents from the rubble, and another nine people were evacuated from the building. The strike caused structural damage from the fourth to the second floors.
According to local authorities, a total of 145 apartments in six buildings were damaged. In the entrance directly hit by the drone, two apartments were completely destroyed.
Emergency search operations at the site of the attack were completed at around 9:00 p.m local time.
