In Poland, near Brzeg, an accident occurred that claimed the lives of six people. Five of the victims are believed to be Ukrainians, the spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office in Opole, states Stanisław Bar.

The crash happened on the morning before Christmas, December 23, near Brzeg in Zielenice. It is also known that a 59-year-old resident of Brzeg died in the accident.

The vehicles collided at the intersection of two national roads. Under circumstances that remain unclear, a head-on collision occurred between a Ford Kuga, driven by the deceased Polish man, and a Volkswagen Passat.

As a result of the collision, the Volkswagen caught fire. The driver of the Ford and five people in the Passat died at the scene.

The spokesperson for the Opole prosecutor’s office stated that information indicates the Volkswagen occupants were Ukrainian citizens.

DNA tests will likely be needed to confirm their identities. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The prosecutor’s office is not commenting on the circumstances or causes of the accident until the appointed accident reconstruction expert completes their investigation.

The Traffic Management Department of the National Police Headquarters in Poland reported that from December 24 to 26, there were 99 accidents, mostly due to hazardous weather conditions.
