The company in question is defense manufacturer Streit Group, which produces armored vehicles and other military equipment, according to Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Twitter (X).

Canada imposes sanctions on Streit Group

Canada is imposing sanctions on the company based on extensive evidence that Streit Group supplies its armored vehicles to Russia's National Guard.

"Canada is sanctioning this company following multiple credible reports confirming that armoured vehicles they manufactured have been used by the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia), which is involved in Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine," Canada's foreign ministry stressed.

Canada's Foreign Ministry said the sanctions will reduce Russia's military capabilities in its war against Ukraine by disrupting and restricting Streit Group's ability to supply military technology and equipment to Russia.

"Canada remains unwavering in its commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and people, who continue to defend their country and their rights in the face of Russia's brutal aggression," the statement reads.

Ukraine's response

Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha thanked Canada for the decision.

"Every company supplying technology, equipment, or components to Russia’s military-industrial complex helps sustain its war of aggression against Ukraine and must face consequences," he said.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Ukraine received a major military aid package from Canada to help protect its skies. Additional defense equipment is also expected to arrive in the near future.

It was also announced that Ukraine and Canada had agreed to launch joint drone production for Ukraine's Armed Forces. The facility will be established in Canada.
