Canada’s Prime Minister announces major European tour

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Poland, Germany, and Latvia from August 25 to 27 to strengthen security and trade cooperation with allies, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
From August 25 to 27, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has scheduled meetings with political leaders, business representatives, and NATO partners to discuss common challenges in the areas of security, trade, energy, and critical minerals.
Visits to Warsaw, Berlin, and Riga are planned.
The Prime Minister's Office emphasized that Canada consistently supports its allies in countering Russian aggression against Ukraine and is actively involved in strengthening NATO's eastern flank.
During the visit, Carney is expected to reaffirm Canada's commitment to continuing military and financial assistance to Ukraine.
At the same time, the head of government wants to pay special attention to cooperation in the areas of climate, energy transition, and new technologies. According to Carney, the development of sustainable supply chains for critical minerals and joint investments in the green economy are important for the future economic growth of both Canada and Europe.
"As the world becomes more dangerous and divided, Canada is focused on strengthening and diversifying its international partnerships. Canada is deepening co-operation on trade, energy, and defence with our long-standing European allies. Together, we will create greater security, stability, and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic," the Prime Minister said.
The visit will also be an opportunity to discuss Canada's role in strengthening multilateral institutions and coordinating global security efforts.
Canada is preparing to join the PURL initiative, which will allow it to purchase American weapons for Ukraine within the framework of priority needs coordinated by NATO.
In addition, Canada, together with the EU and the UK, wants to lower the price threshold for Russian oil.
