A Calvin Klein ad with the singer FKA twigs was stopped in the UK as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) says the ad "used nudity and centered on FKA twigs’ physical features rather than the clothing", according to The Guardian.

The ad had a picture of her wearing a shirt that showed some of her breasts and buttocks. The "Calvins or nothing" slogan was also there.

The ASA says the picture is “irresponsible and likely to cause serious offense”.

“The ad used nudity and centered on FKA twigs’ physical features rather than the clothing, to the extent that it presented her as a stereotypical sexual object”, the statement says.

Their ruling states that the ad, which first appeared in April 2023, “must not appear again in the form complained of.”

The decision comes after several complaints. They also include two other Calvin Klein ads with model Kendall Jenner, but the ASA ruled they were decent. It says one of the pictures where Jenner held her breasts wasn't too sexual, and the other was acceptable for lingerie advertising.

Calvin Klein and FKA twigs reacted

The singer defends the ad, saying that she doesn't see the ‘stereotypical sexual object’ that ASA labeled her.

Calvin Klein also reacted to the ban. “The images were not vulgar and were of two confident and empowered women who had chosen to identify with the Calvin Klein brand, and the ads contained a progressive and enlightened message,” the company says in a statement.

Ironically, the ban takes place amid Calvin Klein's great success featuring nude Jeremy Allen White.
