Activision is changing its Call of Duty strategy: new entries in the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series will no longer be released back-to-back. The company plans to offer an "absolutely unique experience each and every year" so that each release feels different from the last. The information comes from the American tech website The Verge.

Activision promises innovation and stronger competition

Black Ops 7 was released in November and received mixed reviews, and its launch in Europe turned out to be disappointing. Before the game's release, Treyarch senior production director Yale Miller admitted he was worried that Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 might feel too similar to players.

"We will drive innovation that is meaningful, not incremental. While we aren't sharing those plans today, we look forward to doing so when the time is right," Activision stated.

The company also emphasized that "the future of Call of Duty is very strong" and that "our best days are ahead of us, given the depth and talent of our development teams." According to Activision, the next era of Call of Duty will "deliver precisely on what you want, along with some surprises that push the Franchise and the genre forward."

Alongside this, in 2025, Call of Duty is competing with EA's Battlefield 6, which sold more than seven million copies in its first three days and is already being positioned by EA as "best-selling shooter game of the year," as well as with Arc Raiders, which has surpassed four million copies sold.
