Ukrainians are increasingly wondering which grains are healthier and better suited for daily meals. Should you opt for the trendy quinoa or stick to traditional buckwheat? Ukrainian nutritionist Kateryna Krupkina explained that the difference between these products is much smaller than it might seem.
Which to choose: Buckwheat or quinoa?
According to her, both buckwheat and quinoa have a similar set of nutrients. Both grains contain B vitamins, fiber and provide good satiety while supporting digestive health. That's why the choice between them is not about health benefits but personal taste.
Krupkina emphasizes that there's no need to complicate your diet by trying to classify these grains as better or worse. If your body responds well to a particular grain, you can confidently include it in your menu.
"In fact, they are more or less similar in their properties. I wouldn't choose. Eat whichever you like more," the expert explains.
She also added that despite quinoa's global popularity, she personally prefers buckwheat.
"I like buckwheat more. I just can't eat quinoa at all," admitted the nutritionist.
Buckwheat is an affordable and familiar grain for Ukrainians, rich in nutrients, easy to prepare, and pairs well with vegetables, meat, or dairy. Quinoa is often valued for its high plant-based protein content and easy digestibility.
Still, there's no need to choose the "healthier" option. The main criterion is taste and how the grain suits you personally.
