Brazil lifts blocking on Elon Musk's business bank accounts
On Friday, August 14, the Brazilian Supreme Court lifted restrictions on the bank accounts of Starlink and Elon Musk's X. More than $3 million in fines were transferred to them, reports Axios.
This is currently the latest episode in the confrontation between the billionaire and judge Alexander Le Moraes, whom Musk accused of acting like a “dictator” for suspending the social network X in the most populous country in Latin America.
Axios writes that despite the unblocking of accounts, Moraes did not revoke his decision to block access to X because the company had not appointed a legal representative in the country.
What preceded the blocking
Social network X was banned in Brazil in late August because the company failed to appoint a legal representative in the country by the deadline set by the court.
Moraes also issued a ruling freezing Starlink's finances in Brazil and banning Musk's satellite Internet business from conducting financial transactions in the country.
Months earlier, the judge announced that he would investigate Musk for obstruction of justice after the billionaire decided to ignore a court order to block certain accounts on his platform. This comes as officials have been battling disinformation spreading on social media.
