Russia uses troops in the Sumy direction that were previously redeployed to the Kursk region. However, Ukrainian border guards are not observing any movement of enemy military columns toward the border, said Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

"It's important to remember that at one time, Russia was building up its forces in this area, particularly in an attempt to push out the Defense Forces conducting operations within the Kursk region. These are the same forces now being used along our border," the spokesperson said.

Demchenko emphasized that border guards are not seeing "columns moving toward our border."

"It’s possible that the enemy either doesn't have enough equipment or is holding it back for future operations. Only small infantry groups, sometimes using quad bikes or motorcycles, are attempting to enter our territory to shift the zone of combat onto Ukrainian territory," he added.

According to the spokesperson, some of the Russian soldiers captured from these small assault groups entering Ukrainian territory are former convicts.

50,000 Russian troops in the Sumy direction

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Russia is amassing troops in the Sumy direction. According to him, over 50,000 Russian troops are currently concentrated in the area.

Zelenskyy also noted that the enemy's strongest forces are operating in the Kursk direction, from where Russia is trying to push back Ukrainian forces.

The President added that Ukrainian troops in the Kursk area have achieved good results, and the Defense Forces will hold the territory there until Russia decides to end the war.

Later, the Kharkiv Operational Tactical Group reported that they are not observing any redeployment of 50,000 Russian troops from the Kursk region for an assault on Kharkiv.
