Big win in England: Ukrainian boxer Zhasan secures spot in World Championship quarters

Ukrainian boxer Danylo Zhasan has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 World Boxing Championships taking place in Liverpool. In the round of 16, the Ukrainian secured a unanimous victory over Ireland's Brian Lee Kennedy with a score of 5:0.
Zhasan continues his winning streak
On Tuesday, September 9, Danylo Zhasan, competing in the 86 kg weight category, had his second fight at the World Championships.
The Ukrainian boxer completely dominated his opponent, landed more accurate punches, and controlled the fight pace in every round.
In the second round, Lee Kennedy was knocked down. Thanks to Zhasan's confident performance, he claimed a unanimous decision victory with a score of 5:0.
At the start of the tournament, the Ukrainian boxer defeated Germany's Ammar Abduljabar, further cementing his status as one of the leaders in his weight division.
Quarterfinal opponent – An experienced Georgian
In his next fight, which will take place on September 12, Zhasan will face Georgia's Giorgi Kushitashvili.
Kushitashvili is a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships, the 2022 European Champion, and a multiple-time medalist at international and national tournaments. The clash promises to be one of the key battles in this weight category.
Women also showing success
Earlier, Ukrainian boxer Hanna Okhota won her opening fight against Singapore's Danisha Matiagalan.
She became the first Ukrainian female athlete to pass the opening round at this championship.
About 2025 World Championships
The Amateur World Boxing Championships under the aegis of World Boxing began on September 4 in Liverpool at the Liverpool Arena.
The tournament will run until September 14, with athletes competing for 20 sets of medals across men's and women's weight divisions.
