In Kerch, in the east of the temporarily occupied Crimea, explosions were heard on the night of August 16. Following this, a fire was reported in the city, according to the Telegram channel Crimean Wind.

Residents reported powerful explosions in Kerch on social media that night. In response, Russian occupiers closed the movement across the Crimean Bridge.

Social media also mentioned the activity of Russian air defense. Gauleiters also reported air defense operations in Crimea.

The monitoring group Crimean Wind published satellite images showing a fire on the outskirts of Kerch. It is currently unknown exactly where the fire started.

The Crimean Wind channel also does not rule out the possibility that the Kerch area might have sustained damage to a Pantsir-S1 air defense system, though this has not been confirmed.

Night-time explosions in Crimea

On the night of August 16, it was noisy in occupied Crimea. Explosions were heard in several cities, including Sevastopol, Kerch, and Chornomorske.

Russian occupiers and propagandists immediately claimed an alleged attack, as well as air defense operations. The Crimean Bridge was closed at night and resumed operation only in the morning, with a queue observed before the bridge.

There were also reports online about a possible strike in Kerch and Mount Mithridat, where the Pantsir-S1 air defense system was stationed. Additionally, social media mentioned that the ferry crossing at the Kerch port and a boat in the Chornomorske settlement might have been hit.
