Biden undergoing radiation therapy as cancer fight enters new stage

Former US President Joe Biden has begun a new phase of treatment for an aggressive form of cancer diagnosed in May, NBC News reports.
"As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment," the spokesperson for the former president said.
An NBC source familiar with the patient added that the radiation course is expected to last five weeks and marks a new stage in his care. Biden is already taking oral hormone medication.
What is known
Last month, 82-year-old Joe Biden underwent a skin cancer procedure known as Mohs surgery. Afterward, he was often seen in public with a large bandage on his forehead. His doctor noted in a memo that "all cancerous tissue was successfully removed" and that "no further treatment is required."
Earlier in May, the former president announced he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones. At the time, his office said he was considering multiple treatment options to ensure effective management of the disease.
In a post on X after revealing his diagnosis, Biden wrote, "Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support."
Several oncologists later told NBC News that, given the nature of Biden's cancer and the fact it had already metastasized, it is possible the former US president's disease had gone undiagnosed for many years.
