Biden to announce new funding for Ukraine today, Reuters reports
President of the United States Joe Biden today, December 6, will announce the allocation of additional funding for Ukraine, according to Reuters.
An unnamed American official reveals that the U.S. President will announce the allocation of $175 million in additional aid to Ukraine during his address to Congress today.
The official also states that he will urge Congress to pass his request for national security funding, which includes over $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, adds the Reuters source.
Issues with funding Ukraine
The Pentagon has utilized 97% of the $62.3 billion allocated by Congress for military aid to Ukraine, as disclosed this week by Shalanda Young, director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (a division within the Executive Office of the President).
Back in October, U.S. President Joe Biden called on Congress to allocate over $100 billion for national security, including over $60 billion for Ukraine.
Today, December 6, the Senate is set to consider the relevant bill. However, it's unlikely to garner support, as Republicans in the upper house of Congress intend to vote against it.
They demand that the White House incorporate more stringent border security proposals into its request.
