The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea is an act of desperation. This should concern everyone interested in maintaining peace, according to the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

US State Department's position

Blinken stated that Putin's visit to North Korea is a sign of his desperation to strengthen relations with countries that can support his war against Ukraine.

The Secretary of State added that China's support has allowed Russia to maintain its defense-industrial base, supplying 70% of the machinery Moscow imports and 90% of microelectronics.

"That has to stop," he said.

White House position

Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the deepening cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a trend that should cause serious concern for anyone interested in preserving peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

She also mentioned the support for the people of Ukraine, who are defending their freedom and independence from Russian aggression and invasion.

Putin arrives in North Korea

Vladimir Putin decided to travel to North Korea for a meeting with dictator Kim Jong Un. The Washington Post suggested that the Kremlin leader needs weapons from North Korea.

Today, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg expressed concern about the support Russia might provide to North Korea's missile and nuclear programs.
