Biden promised to continue assisting Ukraine, called on Congress to 'stop playing games'
U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that the United States will continue to support Ukraine. However, he also urged Congress to "stop playing games," according to his Twitter.
Biden warned that there is "not much time left" for American funds to continue flowing to Ukraine and called on Congress to "stop playing games and get to work."
In an address from the White House, the President assured American allies, the American people, and the people of Ukraine that the United States will continue to provide them with support.
He added that he is "tired of the brinkmanship" after narrowly avoiding a partial federal government shutdown.
The situation in the U.S.
In the United States, there was a risk of a government shutdown due to the position of far-right Republicans who were blocking the passage of budget bills for the next fiscal year, demanding cuts in what they considered excessive spending. They also opposed providing additional aid to Ukraine.
On the other hand, the White House attempted to at least include a compromise of $6 billion for Ukraine by mid-November, but the initiative did not garner enough votes.
To avoid a government shutdown that was scheduled for October 1, the House of Representatives approved temporary government funding without funds for Ukraine on September 30.
