Biden meeting Zelenskyy: The world unites thanks to Ukraine
The world is united thanks to Ukraine, but Kyiv paid a high price for it, says President of the United States Joe Biden during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, RBC-Ukraine correspondent reports.
"It is very sad what is happening in Ukraine, but the good news is that the world is uniting. There is a very high price for this, but unity is happening in the world. People understand that they cannot just watch what is happening," he said.
Biden also added that Japan is directly involved in what is happening in Ukraine.
"The issue of Putin's mentality is something from the 14th century. I have to emphasize that. We talked about it before. The idea that (Japanese Prime Minister Fumio) Kishida increases the defense budget and reduces the domestic budget, they are directly involved in what is happening in Ukraine. It's extraordinary," he noted.
NATO Summit in Vilnius
NATO allies agreed on a joint communiqué regarding Ukraine. They outlined their vision for Ukraine's path to membership in the Alliance.
The NATO member states determined that Ukraine will receive an invitation to join the Alliance after the allies reach a consensus and the country fulfills certain conditions.
However, Ukraine has not been given clear conditions and a timeline for joining NATO.
Zelenskyy criticized NATO for its indecisiveness regarding Ukraine due to the lack of clear membership conditions.
Before the meeting with Biden, Zelenskyy said that he does not intend to persuade the US leader that Ukraine should be in NATO.
