Biden Administration denies claims that US President could withdraw from elections
US President Joe Biden does not plan to stop participating in the election race. He wants to defeat his competitor, Donald Trump, according to MSNBC and NBC News.
Official statements from the Biden campaign
Jen O'Malley Dillon, the chair of the US presidential campaign, denied media rumors that the US President might withdraw his candidacy in the elections in the near future.
"Absolutely, the President's in this race," she said.
According to Biden's campaign chair, the President is now "more committed than ever to beat Donald Trump".
She assured that Biden is "the best person to take on Donald Trump".
O'Malley Dillon acknowledged a slight decline in Biden's support in recent weeks. But, according to her, voters are not shifting from Biden to Trump.
One of Biden's campaign members, Dan Kanninen, also claims that Biden has not lost voter support.
“While voters consistently mention President Biden’s age when contacted, our target voters - both re-engagement and true swing voters - are still planning to vote for him, making it clear the debate has not hurt support among the voters who will decide this election,” he said.
According to Kanninen, there is a lot of work to be done to win the November elections. But he assures that Biden is the only Democratic candidate and there is no alternative.
Rumors in the media
NBC News, citing sources, reports that Biden's family members have discussed what his withdrawal from the elections might look like.
The interlocutors of the agency clarified that the main subject of discussion was the impact of the campaign on Biden's health, his family, and stability in the country.
However, White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates denied such rumors.
"That is not happening, period. The individuals making those claims are not speaking for his family or his team - and they will be proven wrong. Keep the faith," he said.
What preceded it
Information about the possibility of US President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the November elections emerged after his unsuccessful performance in a debate with former President Donald Trump.
As Axios wrote yesterday, July 18, Biden may decide to withdraw from the race this weekend.
At the same time, according to the NYT, the US Democratic Party has decided to postpone the vote during which Biden is to be declared the official presidential candidate.
