Belarus starts testing combat capability of aviation and air defense
The Belarusian army has launched a new phase of inspections for its military units and formations starting September 30. The inspections are focused on assessing the readiness and capability of the Air Force and air defense units to perform their tasks, according to the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.
"The scope of the inspections will be gradually increased, utilizing all available training grounds for the completion of combat training tasks," the statement said.
Personnel, including reservists called up from the reserves, are required to complete the full range of preparatory measures for weapons, military, and specialized equipment, as well as deploy to designated areas.
The military authorities also indicated that military equipment movement is planned during the inspections. As a result, there may be temporary restrictions on civilian traffic on public roads and certain areas.
Belarus' involvement in Russia's war against Ukraine
Alexander Lukashenko allowed his territory to be used for Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. However, the Belarusian army itself has not been directly involved in the war, continuously conducting military exercises.
Last week, Lukashenko followed in Vladimir Putin's footsteps by threatening the West with nuclear weapons.
Ukrainians' attitudes toward Lukashenko and Belarus have deteriorated sharply since the war began. According to a survey by the Razumkov Center, Ukrainians mostly view six countries negatively, with the worst sentiments directed toward Russia (-93%) and its allies, Belarus (-80%), Iran (-72%), and China (-54%).
