Belarus periodically switches on repeaters that amplify the signal for Russian drones during attacks on Ukraine, according to State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko on the air on Den.LIVE.
He said that the repeaters are switched on, in particular, when the aggressor state launches drones at western regions.
"The example of Russia’s attacks on our western regions shows that repeaters continue to operate or be switched on periodically in Belarus, amplifying the signal for Russian drones," the State Border Guard Service spokesperson said.
At the same time, Demchenko said that border guards are currently not recording any buildup of troops or personnel, or the movement of military equipment, along the border with Belarus.
In June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to dismantle the repeaters.
The head of state gave him a week to do so, stressing that if there was no response, Ukraine would destroy the facilities itself.
A few days later, Belarusian media reported that Russian drones had stopped flying along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. Zelenskyy later said that the repeaters were no longer operating.
Defense Minister’s adviser Serhii “Flash" Beskrestnov said that Russian forces were likely continuing to use repeaters in Belarus to launch drone attacks on Ukraine.
RBC-Ukraine reported that Oleh Ivashchenko, head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, confirmed that the repeaters in Belarus had resumed operating. At the same time, he said that Ukraine had sufficient capabilities to deal with them.
