Belarus has launched a joint border control database with Russia, so Russian conscripts banned from leaving the country are now being stopped from going abroad, reports Belsat.

A representative of the State Border Committee of Belarus confirmed that Minsk is not allowing Russians banned from leaving Russia to cross the border.

“If we receive a response that exit is not restricted, then please, you may leave the territory of Belarus. If exit is banned, then all questions should be directed to the Russian Federation. If a person is in the database, they will not be allowed to leave. If they are not in the database of persons banned from exit, we will allow them to leave,” he explained.

The first case

The first case in which Belarus banned a Russian citizen from leaving became known on April 27. The man, who received an electronic draft notice, was due to report for a medical examination on April 29, after which a ban on his departure from Russia appeared in the electronic registry.

After that, the Russian citizen attempted to leave the country via Belarus by land transport, but he was removed from the trip without being provided any written confirmation.

He then traveled by train to Minsk airport, but there he was not allowed to board a flight to Tbilisi. Later, he was also denied departure on a flight to Yerevan using his Russian passport.

Threat from Belarus

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a strong statement recently about further Russian attempts to draw Belarus into open military confrontation with Ukraine.

According to intelligence, infrastructure is being actively prepared on the territory of the republic. The Belarusian side is building roads to the Ukrainian border and setting up positions for artillery, indicating possible preparations for escalation.

The president of Ukraine warned Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko against fatal mistakes. Experts note that Zelenskyy hinted at a “Venezuelan scenario,” warning of an inevitable loss of power and accountability in the event of direct participation in the war.

The situation is also escalating due to Belarus’s internal decisions. Lukashenko signed a decree on the conscription of reserve officers into the ranks of the Armed Forces and the border service.
