Belarus alleges drone attack from Lithuanian territory, Vilnius responds sharply
Belarus has claimed that it was attacked by drones from the territory of Lithuania. Such accusations are disinformation, according to LRT.
What they said in Belarus
The head of the Belarusian State Security Committee, Ivan Tertel, said that Belarusian security forces had taken measures that “prevented an attack by attack drones from the territory of Lithuania.”
According to the State Security Committee chief, the drones aimed to attack targets in Minsk and its suburbs.
Lithuania's reaction
Major Gintautas Čiunis, a representative of the army's strategic communications department, reacted sharply to the fake news.
“This is 100% disinformation, which is in abundance now, and the fact that Lithuania is attacking Belarus with drones is nonsense, I can't find another word,” he emphasized.
In turn, a representative of the Lithuanian Army Commander's communications service, Žyvile Džigalvienė, emphasized that the Lithuanian army has not and will not take hostile actions against other countries.
The head of the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, linked the enemy's active spread of fakes to NATO exercises in the Baltic states.
“Such statements by the Belarusian State Security Committee can be assessed as an ongoing enemy provocation and an information attack against Lithuania that has nothing to do with reality,” he said.
Fakes of Belarus
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Belarusian officials have repeatedly created fakes about external threats to their country.
In particular, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Belarusians were killed in Ukraine, referring to Belarusian truck drivers who were actually killed by a Russian airstrike.
Belarus also claimed that Ukraine wanted to launch a missile strike on the territory of the country and was preparing for this.
