Battles for Chasiv Yar and Maryinka in Donetsk region: Russian forces deploy reinforcements
Russian troops are deploying reinforcements to Maryinka and Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, attempting to strengthen their positions, stated Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol.
According to him, the Russian army is mostly shifting forces from the Berdyansk direction to the north of the Donetsk region. In particular, there are movements of tracked vehicles.
"This means that they are pulling reinforcements from somewhere, possibly from Crimea or from under Melitopol, to strengthen Maryinka and Chasiv Yar for further pressure on us. We see airborne units entering, which then participate in the assault on Chasiv Yar. So, through Mariupol, we definitely see the priority for today - the northern Donetsk region," Andriushchenko said.
Additionally, as the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol noted, partial movements towards the Zaporizhzhia region continue.
"These are combat kits and fuel trucks, but their regularity does not coincide with what we are observing in the north," he added.
Battles for Chasiv Yar
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia seeks to capture Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region before the so-called Victory Day on May 9th. If Ukrainian forces hold their ground, Russia's plans to launch a counteroffensive in June will be thwarted.
As reported by British intelligence, Russian forces attempting to seize Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region are employing tactics similar to those used in Avdiivka. Occupiers are dropping numerous aerial bombs in this area.
Currently, Ukrainian military forces maintain control of the situation in the town of Chasiv Yar. However, the occupiers continue their assaults.
Specifically, Russian forces in the Donetsk region are attempting to seize the village of Ivanivske and the outskirts of Bohdanivka to break through to Chasiv Yar.
