Batman star Val Kilmer dies at 65: What we know

On Tuesday, April 1, Val Kilmer, a popular Hollywood actor famous for his roles in the films Batman Forever, The Doors, and Tombstone, passed away. He was 65 years old, informs The New York Times.

As his daughter told the media, the actor died in Los Angeles from pneumonia.
It is worth noting that Kilmer was diagnosed with cancer in 2014.
In 2017, he admitted that he had undergone treatment for throat cancer and had difficulty speaking and communicating with journalists.
He underwent a tracheotomy, which resulted in a raspy voice and shortness of breath. He also went through several courses of chemotherapy.
A few years later, the actor revealed that he had completely overcome the illness; however, he lost his voice and had to use a feeding tube.
What is known about Val Kilmer
The actor was born in Los Angeles on December 31, 1959. He studied at the prestigious Juilliard School and began his career in theater.
He made his film debut in 1984, starring in the comedy Top Secret!. He gained widespread recognition two years later when he starred in the action film Top Gun alongside another famous Hollywood actor, Tom Cruise.
In 1991, playing the iconic musician Jim Morrison in The Doors, he became one of Hollywood's most popular actors.

In 1995, Kilmer took on the role of Batman in Batman Forever. For this role, he received his first major paycheck of $7 million.
Kilmer’s other well-known works include roles in Thunderheart, Heat, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and Alexander.

In 2022, he made a brief appearance in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the iconic 1986 action film.

Personal life
From 1988 to 1996, Kilmer was married to actress Joanne Whalley. The former couple had two children: daughter Mercedes Kilmer (born 1991) and son John Wallace "Jack" Kilmer (born 1995).
