Inter Miami midfielder and longtime Barcelona player Sergio Busquets announced on Instagram that he will retire from professional football after the end of the 2025 MLS season.

Busquets' final season

The 37-year-old Spaniard stated that he will leave football after his initial contract with Inter Miami expires. The club has already qualified for the MLS playoffs, so Busquets will have one more chance to fight for a trophy before ending his career.

"I feel like it's time to say goodbye to my career as a professional soccer player. It has been almost 20 years of enjoying this incredible story that I always dreamed of," said the player.

Gratitude to Barcelona, national team, and Inter Miami

In his message, Busquets thanked Barcelona, where he spent 16 years of his career.

"There, I fulfilled the dreams of my childhood of wearing the shirt I loved in hundreds of games. I celebrated many tales and lived unique moments at Camp Nou that I'll never forget," the footballer noted.

He also thanked the Spanish national team, emphasizing that it was an honor to represent his country at the international level. Separately, he mentioned Inter Miami, calling it "part of a new and growing club."

Legendary career

Busquets made his first-team debut for Barcelona in 2008 and went on to play over 700 matches for the club. With the Catalans, he won nine La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies, seven Copa del Rey titles, and three FIFA Club World Cups.

With Spain, he won Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012.

In 2023, Busquets joined Inter Miami, where, alongside Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez, he helped the club win its first Leagues Cup in 2023 and the Supporters' Shield in 2024.

"These will be my last months on the pitch. I am retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful. Thank you very much, see you soon... All end is a new beginning," the player concluded.
